PENANG: The death of three-year-old Shearwey Ooi Ying Ying has left her father Ooi Eng Chew heart broken and angry.
The 29-year-old businessman, who was in China when news of Ying Ying's death came to light, said his daughter's shocking death was just too hard to accept.
"I will never forgive her if she has anything to do with Ying Ying's death," he said, referring to his wife, Jess Teh. Ooi and Teh are in the midst of getting divorced.
Teh and her boyfriend Ong Chee Leong were arrested on Sunday to help police investigations into Ying Ying's death.
A distraught Ooi said Ying Ying did not deserve to die in such a gruesome manner.
"If she did not want Ying Ying, she could have told me and given her to me. I am more than willing to look after her," he said.
Ooi said he did not fight for custody of Ying Ying after their separation about one year ago because the tussle would only hurt Ying Ying.
"I also knew that my mother-in-law was taking good care of Ying Ying. It was such a relief to know then that my daughter was in good hands. I never thought this would happen," he said.
Ooi is still harbouring hopes that the bone fragments found are not Ying Ying's.
"I know this is unlikely but I need hope," he said.
Ooi left for China on June 21 to source for some mobile phone spare parts and accessories as he was planning to open a mobile phone shop in Penang. He arrived in Penang on Monday night.
He said he had not been able to sleep since he was informed of Ying Ying's disappearance.
"I am really tired and exhausted," he said.
Ooi said he and Teh were married on Nov 10, 2002.
"I knew my wife was seeing someone else but I did not know who the man was," he said.
