Robbers assault victims in front of child in M'sia

KOTA TINGGI: A 6-year-old could only watch in horror as a gang of robbers beat up his parents in a dark and secluded part of a plantation on Thursday night. Hafrizal Amin, 52, and his wife Hasnah Ahmad, 38, were treated at the Kota Tinggi Hospital for swollen faces and cuts on their head, lips, eyes and arms.

They were too weak to talk but their son, Mario, said one of the men was masked.

The family was travelling on a motorcycle to a night market when they were stopped by five men at Ladang Kumpulan Melayu in Kambau, 60km from here, at 8pm.

They used batons to assault the couple before taking cash and jewellery from them.

A plantation supervisor came across the family two hours later. Most of the houses in the plantation are at least two kilometres from each other.

Plantation manager Razali Md Norr said the couple was found groaning in pain while Mario was at their side, weeping.

"The supervisor took an hour to send them to hospital," said Razali.

District deputy police chief Supt Muhamad Shamsuddin said no report had been lodged yet as the couple were too weak.

The couple's eldest son, Othman, 19, who lives on his own in Ulu Tiram, has been informed.
