
NEW YORK - US shares open mixed on Tuesday ahead of some key data releases on the US economy in April and following some earnings disappointments.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 2.88 points, or 0.02 percent, at 13,210.75 in the first 10 minutes of trade.
The broad-based S&P 500 index gained 0.54 (0.04 percent) to 1,398.45, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 1.56 (0.05 percent) to 3,047.92.
Traders were awaiting the ISM survey on the US manufacturing sector in April, and a separate release on construction spending, due at 10 am (1400 GMT).
Avon and Pfizer both headed lower on first quarter earnings disappointments. Avon shares fell 3.8 percent in opening trade and Pfizer was 1.4 percent lower.
