BANTING, MALAYSIA: A dead baby girl, with the umbilical cord still attached, was found in a sports bag in front of a mosque in Teluk Panglima Garang on Tuesday.

The one-week-old baby is believed to have been dead for a few days.

Kuala Langat district police chief Supt Zulkifli Mohamed said the baby, believed to be Malay, was found by a mosque caretaker when he was cleaning the compound in the evening.

"He spotted the sports bag, opened it and was shocked to find the baby. He immediately alerted the police," he said.

Supt Zulkifli said the body was sent to the Banting Hospital for a post-mortem.
