13-year-old pregnant teen aborted baby

A 13-YEAR-OLD girl who begame pregnant after having sex with an 18-year-old salesman, aborted her baby, a Community Court heard onThursday.

The student was staying at a welfare centre last September when she obtained the man's contact number from her friends.

She then text-messaged him, and he chatted with her by texting her.

On Sept 11, the salesman, took her to a hotel in Geylang where they had sex.

Twelve days later, they again had sex in the same hotel but this charge was taken into consideration.

The following month, the girl found out she was pregnant. Her mother made a police report.

The girl was referred to Singapore General Hospital where she was found to be eight weeks' pregnant. She had an abortion on Nov 13.

Community Court judge May Mesenas postponed sentencing to March 14 for a pre-sentence report.

Under the Women's Charter, the accused can be jailed for up to five years and fined up to $10,000.
