A HIGH-PROFILE undertaker was hauled to court on Tuesday for threatening and assaulting a man apparently over a business dispute.
Tay Hai Choon better known as Roland Tay, 60, is said to have threatened Mr Paul Wong Wah Suang, 52, by swinging a crowbar at him along Lavender Street at about 4.30am on May 31 last year.
The director of Direct Singapore Funeral Services is accused in a second charge to have punched and kicked Mr Wong that day.
The alleged assault was committed with Kelvin Mark Marie, Sureh Kannan Selvi, both 33, and Raj M. Perumal, 44, who were charged in court last week.
Tay has received wide media coverage for overseeing the funerals of murdered China girl Huang Na, Kallang body parts victim Hong Mei and MRT train victim Tan Jee Suan.
Tay's lawyer, Mr Gurdip Singh, told the court he had just been briefed and asked for a four-week adjournment.
The case has been fixed for a pre-trial conference on March 11.
If convicted Tay faces a jail term of up to two years or fine or both for criminal intimidation. For voluntarily causing hurt, the maximum penalty is up to one year in jail or a fine of up to $1,000, or both.
The case of the others, believed to be Tay's workers, has also been fixed for a pre-trial conference.
