KUALA LUMPUR- A BUSINESSMAN was shot in front of his house in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur just as he was about to go jogging on Tuesday.

The man, whose identity is being withheld by police, had just stepped out his front gate of his Kampung Cheras Baru house at 8.20am when a gunman approached him, fired a shot and then fled on foot.

'Family members said a man in his 30s called out the businessman's name before he shot him in his left thigh,' Cheras police chief Asst Comm Ahmad Amir Mohd Hashim said.

'They rushed out of the house and found the businessman on the ground, crying out in pain. They also saw a man running away from the scene.'

He said the 58-year-old businessman was taken to Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and that he was in stable condition.

'We are investigating all possible angles, including business rivalry, as the motive,' ACP Ahmad Amir said.

In another case, a handicapped drug dealer was nabbed during a police operation codenamed Ops Tapis conducted in the city.

The 40-year-old man with a maimed right leg was nabbed at a traffic light junction at Jalan Tun Razak at midnight on Sunday. He was the pillion rider on a motorcycle.

ACP Ahmad Amir said said police found four sachets containing 12.7g of heroin in the man?s waist pouch.

'Investigations revealed that he distributed drugs in Taman Suntex, Cheras, where he lived,' he said. -- THE STAR/ANN
