Man beaten to death in Penang

PENANG, MALAYSIA: A man who was found unconscious with multiple head injuries by the roadside at Jalan Tan Sri Ewe Lim on Saturday has died at the Penang Hospital.

The man, in his 30s, succumbed to his injuries without regaining consciousness at 3am on Monday.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said the police have classified the case as murder.

He appealed to those with information pertaining to the murder to help police in their investigations.

In an unrelated incident, a 71-year-old man died on Monday after setting himself on fire two days earlier at his flat in Jalan Sungai.

Police believe K. Minandi had used kerosene to set himself ablaze at 10.45pm on Saturday.

His son, who managed to put out the fire, was at home when the incident occurred.

ACP Azam said the police have classified the case as sudden death and foul play has been ruled out.
