MALAYSIA, PETALING JAYA: Police shot dead three members of a gang that had been targeting victims leaving banks with large sums of money.
The three, two of whom were Indonesians, had earlier robbed a bank customer in Kelana Jaya of RM10,000.
The man lodged a police report soon after the 3pm incident.
Detectives on special rounds spotted the robbers' car 2km away.
The ensuing chase ended when police blocked the robbers' car in Taman Mayang.
The robbers got out and attacked the detectives with parangs but were shot dead.
Police found a police vest, gloves, jewellery, a balaclava head covering and other items used by the police in the robbers' car, which was believed stolen.
The three, who were smartly dressed, were aged between 30 and 50.
Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the robbers could be behind at least 30 cases of robberies outside banks.
"The gang has been active in Selangor since 2007 and targeted bank customers leaving the premises with large sums of money," he told reporters.
He appealed to the public to continue to provide information and to lodge police reports immediately to enable the police to act swiftly.
