TWO traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners have been suspended and fined for selling prescription drugs without a licence.

A third was censured and fined after treating a patient without advising her to seek medical attention. The patient was later discovered to have bone cancer.

The trio were disciplined by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Practioners Board, which oversees the industry here, in December and January this year.

In a statement on Friday, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board said that the first practitioner, Chen Yan Li, had been found with capsules containing glibenclamide, a prescription drug for diabetes.

The pills were for sale at her clinic, Minh Kang Medicare Services, in Rochor Centre.

The second practitioner, Chin Chong Chin, was caught selling tablets containing diazepam, a prescription drug for insomnia and anxiety, at Huat Tian Medical Hall in Bedok Road.

The drug is marketed under the brand name Valiu.
