JI terrorist Mas Selamat still in S'pore: police

Jemaah Islamiah terrorist Mas Selamat Kastari is still in Singapore, police said on Sunday.

More than 1,000 policemen and soldiers are searching all over the country for him.

The police also believed he is 'acting on his own'. That means he is not helped by anyone. He has no food, money nor transport means to flee Singapore.

As he has no resources to live by, police warned that Mas Selamat could resort to stealing items like clothes and food to survive.

Local telcos are also helping to the manhunt for Mas Selamat. They are sending free MMS messages - with a photgraphe of the fugitive - to cellphones here.

There are about 5.5. million mobile phone subscribers in Singapore and most of the devices are able to receive the Multimedia Messaging Service or MMS.

The terrorist is described as short (1.58m) and he walks with a limp in his left leg.

Meanwhile Interpol has issued a red alert for Mas Selamat on top of a previous orange alert. The red alert means that any law enforcement officer among the international police network's 186 member countries can help arrest him on the spot.
