JOHOR BARU: One of the four Singaporeans arrested in a drugs bust on Tuesday is believed to be the mastermind behind an international syndicate.
Police believe the suspect travelled the world looking for the best "talent" in the world to build his drug empire.
The suspect was found with currencies from various countries and checks also revealed that he had travelled extensively.
Police are now building their case against this suspect by collecting bank statements and more background information on the suspect from their counterparts in Singapore.
Federal police narcotics department deputy director III Datuk Othman Harun said they are working closely with police in Singapore, the United States and Mexico to obtain more background information on the suspects.
Police scored their biggest success against international drug syndicates on Tuesday with the seizure of RM44 million worth of ketamine and syabu.
They arrested 13 suspects, among them a Canadian, six Mexicans and four Singaporeans. The rest were locals.
They also busted two drug processing laboratories located in factories in Senai and Taman Pelangi.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of Mexico here said they were trying to ascertain the nationalities of the suspects with the police.
Embassy charge d'Affaires Eduardo Ruiz Mazon said there had been cases where those who claimed to be Mexicans when arrested were later found to be from other countries.
He said they were also unclear why the news article was titled "Mexican recipe drug ring busted" when those arrested included suspects from at least four countries.
