BATU PAHAT, MALAYSIA: Four teenagers who hurled stones at 17 express buses along the North-South Expressway "for fun" have been detained by police.
The schoolboys, aged between 14 and 17, are believed to have targeted buses plying between the Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng highway exits from March 8-11.
They are believed to have caused widespread damage to buses that resulted in broken windows and dented sides.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ibrahim Aris said the boys threw stones at the buses between 11.45pm and 12.30am.
He added that the students were detained along the 85th kilometre of the NSE at about midnight last Saturday as they were about to resume their illegal activities.
"They were caught with the stones they planned to use. The boys have been remanded until March 19 to facilitate investigations," he said.
Asked why they threw stones at the buses, ACP Ibrahim said the students claimed it was just for fun.
In another case, six motorcycle thieves, including two students, were detained after an early morning police raid here yesterday. Five stolen motorcycles were recovered.
ACP Ibrahim said the suspects, aged between 15 and 25 had stolen five motorcycles in the last few months.
"The success would not have been possible without the cooperation of the public who supplied us with information," he said adding that cooperation was the best weapon to curbing crime.
