The Straits Times

THE director of a construction firm was jailed two weeks on Friday for falsifying the company's general ledger and evading $19,130 in taxes in 2001.

Ong Kah Sut, 41, of Visa Engineering, was also ordered to pay a penalty of $57,390 - three times the amount of tax he tried to dodge.

The company was fined $6,000 and also has to pay a similar penalty.

To settle his other tax-evasion offences, Ong arranged to pay $1.25 million in tax and penalties to the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore.
