Cabbie admits stripping woman in abuse case
Fri, Apr 04, 2008
The Straits Times

A TAXI driver on Friday admitted in a district court to five out of nine charges of abusing two women, including stripping one of them.

Liao Chew Hat, 52, who also ran a cooked food stall, pleaded guilty to stripping a 43-year-old woman in a house in Joo Avenue on Sept 20, 2006. This was after he had slapped her five to six times on the left side of her face.

She sought treatment for pain and loss of hearing in her left ear four days later.

Six months earlier, in March that year, he threatened to kill another woman, aged 37, and her two sons.

He was taking the victim and a 37-year-old woman home in his cab when he threatened to kill the younger woman and her two sons.

Both women were then working at his stall.

When the younger woman avoided him for several days in September 2006, he sent her 173 insulting and threatening text messages.

The case has been adjourned to April 29 for mitigation and a further medical report on the older victim.
