KOTA KINABALU, MALAYSIA - Two young sisters had been frequently raped by their neighbour in a remote farming village for the last six years and one of them is now pregnant and has dropped out of school.
The sisters - a 15-year-old who is now six months pregnant and her 12-year-old Year Six sister - said the neighbour began raping them from 2002 and threatened them with harm if they told anyone in their village in the Kota Marudu district.
Kota Marudu district police chief Mohd Isa Yusof said the children's mother lodged a police report on Friday against the neighbour and police have arrested a man in his 40s.
He said medical examination confirmed that the two sisters were raped and the elder girl was pregnant.
The older girl dropped out of school recently. The other girl was still in primary school and is due to sit for her Peperiksaan Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah this year.
In the report, the mother said that the rapes began when the older girl was nine and the younger girl about seven years old. She only found out about it when the older girl became pregnant.
In a separate case, police arrested an 18-year-old unemployed youth last night in connection with the rape of a seven-year-old girl who is a relative.
He said police investigations showed that the youth allegedly began raping the girl last year.
