'Hammer' teens charged in court for robbing cabby

TWO private students and a school dropout who robbed a taxi driver on Sunday while armed with a hammer were charged in court on Monday.

Renzo Tu Zhi Hao and Quek Jun Hao, both 16, were accused of robbing Mr Fong Peng Weng, 52, of a mobile phone and cash totalling $300 at Block 208 Jurong East Street 21 with the 15-year-old accomplice while armed with a deadly weapon at about 5.20am that day.

The juvenile, who was charged in the Juvenile Court, was remanded at the Singapore Boys' Home pending further investigation.

Tu and Quek were remanded at Clementi police station for a week.

The two were arrested at Jurong East bus interchange while the third, a few hours later when he alighted from a taxi at Jurong East Street 13.

The case will be mentioned on April 28.

Armed robbery committed after 7pm and before 7am carries a jail term of between three and 14 years, with at least 12 strokes of the cane.
