'Peeper' beaten to death

KUALA PERLIS, MALAYSIA - A labourer accused of being a peeping tom, was murdered by an angry mob outside his home in Kampung Belakang Kilang here on Saturday.

Police have arrested at least six villagers, between the ages of 30 and 40, in a case which has been classified as murder.

District police chief Superintendent Yusof Mohd Diah confirmed the incident but declined to comment further.

It is learnt that the mob attacked Hatib and his wife, Fazilah Muhammad, 34, who tried to help her husband.
"I pleaded with the men to stop hitting my husband. I told them to discuss the matter with the police first.

"But they were angry and started to kick and push me. They were kicking and beating him up," said Fazilah, who had just given birth to the couple's first child two months ago. They both have four children each from previous marriages.

Hatib was warded at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital at midnight but succumbed to his injuries several hours later. He was buried at the Kampung Wai Muslim cemetery at 5.30pm yesterday.
