Man accused of slapping girlfriend

A MAN was charged in a district court on Friday with slapping his girlfriend and threatening to kill her.

Pong Wai Sin, 37, is alleged to have slapped Ms Tang Jia Hui, 23, at a flat in Bangkit Road in Bukit Panjang on Feb 28.

He is also accused of pointing a knife at her and saying in Mandarin that he would kill her that evening.

He was remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric assessment.

His case will be mentioned again on May 23.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to two years or a fine of up to $5,000 or both for voluntarily causing hurt.

Criminal intimidation is punishable with up to two years in jail or fine or both.
