KOTA KINABALU: The two men found guilty of abducting and raping a Universiti Malaysia Sabah student last month has been sentenced to another 10 years in jail for stealing a car.
With the latest conviction, Mohd Ariffin Bidin, 29, will now be behind bars for 42 years and receive 25 strokes of the rotan while Mohd Sahrizal Suhaili, 20, will be jailed for 38 years and receive 20 strokes of the rotan.
The two were produced before magistrate Mohamad Nasruddin on Thursday in the Sabah interior town of Keningau, where they admitted to stealing a car belonging to an insurance company worker on April 10.
Prosecuting officer Chief Insp Ramona Albert told the court that Mohd Ariffin and Mohd Sahrizal were arrested on April 17 and April 16 respectively after abducting the 22-year-old UMS student on April 15 and taking her on a 10-hour terror ride during which they repeatedly assaulted her sexually.
Police discovered that the men had stolen a car in Keningau and the vehicle they had used in the abduction had also been stolen.
Mohamad sentenced the two to 10 years in jail each for the car theft. He then ordered that they serve their sentences consecutively to those imposed by the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court on April 24 for kidnapping, rape and causing grievous hurt to the student.
