By Elena Chong

AN UNEMPLOYED man was charged in court on Monday with the murder of a 61-year-old man last week.

Astro Jakaria, 26, a Malaysian, is said to have caused the death of Mr Abdul Khalid Othman with two other unknown men.

The alleged offence took place at a two-room flat at Block 508 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 between last Thursday and Saturday.

The victim, a transvestite, was found dead on Saturday in the bedroom, clad only in his undergarments.

Neighbours said the cleaner usually wore a baju kurung and covered his head with a scarf.

Astro has golden hair and was clad in a black polo shirt with dark jeans.

He was remanded for a week until next Monday for investigation.

The penalty for murder is mandatory death sentence.
