Man charged with mischief by fire

A 66-YEAR-OLD man claimed trial in a district court on Tuesday to burning discarded items outside a house on Monday.

Tan Ban Long, unemployed, is said to have committed mischief by fire outside the house in Surin Lane off Upper Serangoon Road.

He said he wanted to engage a lawyer.

Bail of $10,000 was set. He will be back in court on July 1.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.
