MUAR, MALAYSIA: All 69-year-old Zakariah Mahmud did was to tell off a foreigner for wearing a slipper inside the town mosque here and now he is dead.

Zakariah had just performed his morning prayers at the mosque when he told off a foreigner for wearing slippers into the prayer hall.

The foreigner pushed Zakariah who then fell down and hit his head on the floor at 6.20am on Tuesday. He fell into a coma and died on Thursday evening.

Muar police chief Asst Comm Mohamed Nasir Ramli said police have detained the foreigner, aged 27, from Jalan Abdul Rahman for questioning.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and police were waiting for the post-mortem result to determine the cause of death.
