A RETIREE active in grassroot community work was found stabbed to death at his Toa Payoh Central flat.

Mr Koh Sam Hong, 73, had stab wounds to his upper body and was lying face-up in a puddle of blood on the bedroom floor in the four-room HDB flat in Block 79C.

A knife was also found next to his naked body.

His daughter, who is in her 30s, is believed to have found him dead when she returned to the flat after 10 pm on Thursday.

He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at 11.05 pm.

The Straits Times understands that the murdered man and his unmarried daughter moved into the recently-completed block not too long ago.

Neighbours said they did not hear any commotion in the flat. Most did not know of the murder until journalists showed up at the scene.

'I am very shocked that this happened, especially in his own home. He's a very nice man with no enemies,' said a 37-year-old neighbour who wanted to be known only as Mrs Chan.

Mr Koh's nephew, who declined to be named, said his uncle had six daughters. His wife died more than 10 years ago.

He described his uncle as a 'very nice' man who was was very involved with community work at a residents' committee.

Police are investigating the case as murder.
