SHAH ALAM: City Council enforcement officers did more than seize and store when they raided illegal stalls in Taman Sri Muda area last month.
A group of 30 officers allegedly also helped themselves to the seized durians, rambutans and mangosteens.
Fruit stallholder by Ghazali Che Ismail, however, would not stand for it and lodged a police report.
He claimed that the officers carried out the raid about 4.30pm on July 14 and seized 940kg of fruits and some equipment from him.
While trying to reclaim the seized fruits and equipment from the city council store in Section 17 at 6.30pm, Ghazali saw a fruits feast going on.
Ghazali demanded the return of his fruits but only managed to get half of them back.
He valued his losses at RM1,500.
Shah Alam City Council councillor V. Vembarasan lambasted the department during its full board meeting on Thursday.
He also demanded immediate action against the officers involved in the incident.
When contacted yesterday, Vembarasan said the conduct of the officers had tarnished the image of the council.
"The council should investigate this issue. It should also compensate Ghazali for his losses and apologise to him."
Ghazali, when contacted, said the council yesterday promised to compensate him for the fruits.
"They have also agreed to give me a licence to make my stall legal," he said, adding that he had applied for a trading licence two years ago.
He was also glad that the matter was settled amicably, with arrangements being made for him to meet mayor Mazalan Md Noor.
Mazalan said disciplinary action would be taken against the officers involved.
