A LAWYER who overcharged his clients for expenses incurred in a property deal has been suspended from practice for six months.
Low Yong Sen, a sole proprietor who has been practising for 15 years, billed a married couple $4,300 in expenses for the deal.
An independent disciplinary committee decided in February that this amount was three times more than what it felt would have been fair.
The committee found the case serious enough to be referred to the Court of Three Judges, which can censure, suspend or strike a lawyer off the roll.
Justice Chao Hick Tin, giving the court's decision on Monday, said a suspension was called for in this case, as the judges found it 'disturbing' that Mr Low has similar antecedents.
Mr Low was previously reprimanded by the Law Society for overcharging a hawker for a divorce case.
