POLICE arrested an armed robber on Sunday after he was tracked down with the help of a cabbie's Global Positioning System.
The suspect, a 34-year-old Chinese man, had earlier robbed a woman taxi driver at knife point at Raeburn Park at about 1.45pm. He then fled in another taxi.
The cabbie noted the getaway vehicle's registration number and called the police.
Police contacted the operations room of Comfort Taxi to alert other taxi drivers to look out for the cab and track it using GPS.
Guided by a Comfort Taxi operator, officers from the Central Police Division tracked and intercepted the taxi at the junction of Outram Road and Eu Tong Sen Street.
The suspect got out from the cab and charged towards the police officers, ignoring warnings to stop.
An officer shot the suspect with his Taser at close range, hitting him on his upper body. The suspect was arrested.
'Police moved in swiftly to arrest the suspect with the reliable information provided by the taxi and taxi operator,' commander of Central Police Division Lau Peet Meng said in a statement.
The suspect is also believed to have robbed two other taxi drivers at knife-point on Aug 2.
He will be charged in court on Aug 5 for armed robbery.
