Corrupt cop found guilty of graft
Thu, Aug 07, 2008
The Straits Times

Staff-sergeant Rajantra Mathavar offered to investigate a robbery - but for a fee. He was found guilty on Thursday of obtaining $1,000 and two bottles of whisky from the robbery victim two years ago.

He will be sentenced on Aug 28. During the six-day trial that ended in May, the court heard how Rajantra promised businessman Prathiya Raj Doraisamy that he would assist in the probe to recover $7,000 in jewellery.

The policeman had asked for $2,000 but Mr Prathiya could only spare $1,000. Rajantra's devious plan was discovered when Mr Prathiya asked another police officer about the $1,000.
