DUNGUN, MALAYSIA - A man, who impersonated a Road Transport Department (JPJ) officer, has been fleecing Felda settlers by making them believe that they have bought vehicles, which were registered. They were, in fact, stolen.

Police detained the 36-year-old man yesterday and seized, among others, 734 forged JPJ car registration certificates, "JPJ" rubber stamps, "authorisation" stamps of the "Selangor Customs director" and one with the name "Razman Zakaria," who is "Custom Superintendent" based at the Port Klang Free Trade Zone.

State CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Fauzi Abduri said the man claimed that he was a "JPJ" officer and had forged documents to dupe buyers of the stolen vehicles.

"We confiscated five stolen cars, including two Mercedes Benz, from the suspect, who operates in Machang, Kelantan," he said.

It is learnt that the man is part of a car theft ring, whose leader is high on the police wanted list.

He was detained with 12 others under Ops Lejang Sawit from July to yesterday. Fourteen lorries and six cars were seized. ACP Fauzi said the lorries were sold at very low prices, some only costing RM5,000.
