KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: A 17-year-old student has filed a RM250,000 (S$105,000) suit against the police for unlawful arrest.
He also claimed that he was assaulted by policemen in the lock-up.
The boy, who filed the suit through his mother named the Pandan Indah police station chief, Selangor police chief and the government as defendants.
The suit was filed by Messrs Shukor Baljit and Partners at the High Court registry yesterday.
In his suit, the teenager claimed he was not informed of the reason for his arrest when police detained him at his home at 7.55pm on May 21.
He said he told the police station chief that he wanted to meet with his family and consult a lawyer but this was denied.
He claimed to have been forced to admit that he stole 18 motorcycles and when he refused, he was stripped naked and kicked repeatedly by one of the policemen, although he told them that he was recovering from a recent surgery.
He was admitted to the Ampang Hospital for six days after the incident.
The boy is seeking a declaration from the High Court that his arrest was unlawful, general damages for his arrest, damages for physical and mental trauma, and other relief deemed fit by the court.
