AN army driving instructor was fined $8,000 and banned from driving for four years on Thursday for causing the death of a pizza deliveryman.

Madivanan Kuppusamy, 49, a regular in the army since 1977, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Mr Muhammad Zaid Abdul Razak, 18, at the junction of Yio Chu Kang Road and Yio Chu Kang Link on Jan 7.

He failed to give way when making a right turn from Yio Chu Kang Link into Yio Chu Kang Road, resulting in a head-to-side collision between his car and Mr Zaid's motorcycle travelling from the opposite direction.
