KUALA LUMPUR: A man who claimed to be the husband and supplementary credit card holder of a 44-year-old cashier has run up a RM10,000 ($4,147) debt.
To make matters worse, the victim, Lim Moh Cheng, cancelled her credit card application two weeks after sending the form in 2005.
"I went personally to inform the bank officer to cancel the application," she said, adding that she never received any credit card or statement from the bank since the cancellation was made.
Lim said that she was shocked when she received a call from the bank on Nov 27 last year, informing her that she owed the bank more than RM10,000 for purchases made by a supplementary card holder.
She added that the bank officer told her that a man named Chua Keng Onn, 62, who claimed to be her husband, had used a supplementary card issued under her name.
"I don't know who he is. I don't understand how Chua could have claimed to be my husband in an application form which is in the bank's possession," she said, adding that she is happily married to Chong Yew Wooi, 43, since 1996 who works as a chef.
MCA Public Services and Complaints Department chief Datuk Michael Chong said she had lodged a police report on Nov 29 last year and hoped the police would investigate the matter so that the bank could be informed of the outcome.
