SUBANG JAYA, MALAYSIA - A suspected underworld kingpin, described as notorious and a public order nuisance, has been arrested by Selangor police.
The man, in his 50s, who had over the years eluded police arrest was picked up from his house here at about 1am on Wednesday. Selangor police serious crimes officers arrested him under the Emergency Ordinance, which provides for the man to be held in police custody for 60 days without trial.
It is learnt the man, who owns a string of businesses, is involved in vice activities.
State Chief Police Officer DCP Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed the arrest but declined to elaborate.
Police had in 2003 put the man and four others on the wanted list following the sensational murders of two brothers from Sungai Besar.
Kee Tick You, 36, was slashed and shot by several intruders who broke into his Sungai Besar house on June 9, 2003.
His murder took place about 10 hours after his elder brother Tick Leng, 43, was shot by two unidentified men while having dinner with his wife in Haadyai.
Tick Leng survived the shooting but died when he was attacked two weeks later at a hospital in the Thai city.
However, due to the lack of evidence the suspect was let off the hook, but with police maintaining a close watch over him.
