A TIGER Airways senior executive was charged in a district court on Monday with allegedly strangling a taxi driver in May.

David William Barker, 58, who is the Singapore-based low-cost airline's head of group engineering and fleet planning, allegedly used his hands to hurt the cabbie, 34-year-old Phua Kok Khoon, along Tanjong Pagar Road.

He faces a a maximum of two years' jail or a $5,000 fine, or both, if convicted. He is out on $10,000 bail and will next appear in court on Nov 17.
