KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Quick thinking by an administrative assistant saved her from being raped by four men.
The woman, who was abducted near her home in Kepong on Thursday, persuaded her abductors to stop at a petrol station on the Cheras-Kajang Besraya highway so she could use the toilet.
The 21-year-old then locked herself in one of the toilet cubicles and called the police.
The men fled on seeing the police arriving at the petrol station minutes later.
The woman was walking home at 9pm, unaware that she was being followed by four men in a Proton Saga.
They bundled her into the car and sped off.
A source said the woman was forced at knife-point to hand over her jewellery, mobile phone and wallet.
The men also made her reveal the personal identification number of her autom-ated teller machine (ATM) card.
"At this time, the woman's mother called her mobile phone as she was worried when her daughter had not returned home.
"The men told her to tell her mother that she was out with friends," the source said.
The men took the woman to an ATM machine and withdrew some money from her account.
They then took her on a joyride.
The woman, however, pleaded to be allowed to use the toilet.
Her abductors were unaware that she had two handphones, and had only taken one of them.
When the woman called the police, she was told to wait inside the cubicle until police arrived.
On seeing a police patrol car approaching the petrol station, the men sped off.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department Senior Assistant Commissioner II Hasnan Hassan declined to elaborate on the case.
However, police sources said the same suspects were believed to have been responsible for at least six wayside robberies and rape cases in the state over the past several months.
