300 Indonesian volunteers hunt for Mas Selamat

An Indonesian volunteer, 28, has gathered about 300 people to join a hunt for Mas Selamat in Indonesia, Lianhe Wanbao reports.

Head of the Jemaah Islamiah in Singapore, Mas Selamat bin Kastari escaped from the Whitley Road Detention Centre on Feb 27. He remains at large despite an island-wide search by both the police and volunteers.

Now, more than eight months later, Tudi, a former volunteer with the Crime Library is continuing the search - in Indonesia.

She has provided her 300 volunteers with Mas Selamat's photo and description in their mobile phones.

In 2004, Tudi met the founder of the Crime Library, Joseph Tan, while on holiday in Singapore and joined the group as a volunteer. The voluntary group is best known for its work in helping to find missing persons.

Back in Indonesia, she set up "Orang Hilang Indonesia" (Missing Persons Indonesia) - an organisation similar to the Crime Library in Singapore.

After Mas Selamat escaped, Joseph Tan from the Crime Library enlisted their help to search for the fugitive. She says that Mr Joseph Tan sent them Mas Selamat's photo through email and MMS, which she then disseminated to their volunteers.

"We will accompany each other to search in the forests and city. As everyone has different working schedules, we can only go out as a group during weekends or public holidays."
