The Straits Times

A 10-YEAR-OLD clad in his pyjamas was found dead at the foot of his block of flats in Bukit Panjang early one morning in August, a coroner's court heard on Wednesday.

A bolster was found next to Boon Yong Quan, a Primary 5 student, and the left side of his blue rubber slipper was found about 2m away at about 4am on Aug 4. The right side of the slipper was found at the staircase landing between the eighth and ninth floor of the block.

After a house-to-house check, police managed to trace the boy's family on the ninth floor. At a coroner's inquiry into the boy's death, Staff Sergeant Low Kay Wee from Jurong police division said police found the main gate of the unit padlocked but the wooden door was not secured.
