IPOH, MALAYSIA: The CCTV at a tidbit shop in Station 18, Pengkalan came in handy on Friday when it caught two robbers in action.
Wearing balaclava and armed with a parang each, the two men were caught storming into the shop at 6pm demanding for cash.
One CCTV recording showed both men leaning over the counter while wielding the parang. In another clip, one robber was seen inside the counter area.
The recording was sent to The Star by J.M. Lai from Ipoh whose family's shop was robbed.
Lai, 16, said her mother and two younger brothers were at the shop at the time of the robbery.
"After my mother handed over RM1,000(S$416.6) cash from the register, they were not satisfied and demanded for more," she said, adding that one of them entered the counter area to search for more cash.
"When they could not find any more money, they took my mother's mobile phone and fled," said Lai, adding that the robbery was over in a minute.
Lai, a student at the Methodist Girls School here, said there was an accomplice in a getaway car, a gold-coloured Proton Waja, outside the shop.
The family handed over the CCTV recording to the Pasir Puteh police station, she said, adding that the CCTV was installed following several thefts at the shop last year.
