PETALING JAYA: Four robbers who struck at a mobile phone shop and a hair salon in Kampung Kayu Ara on Sunday night were confronted by an angry mob.

While three robbers managed to escape, their unlucky fourth accomplice was nabbed by the mob and severely bashed up, resulting in a broken leg.

In the 10pm incident, three men armed with parang went to a mobile phone shop in Jalan Teratai 19 here.

Another accomplice was waiting in the getaway car.

After taking RM500 (S$200) and several mobile phones from the shop, the three robbers decided to stretch their luck by robbing a nearby hair salon.

Unfortunately, there were five workers in the hair salon and they raised the alarm when confronted by the three armed robbers.

The commotion drew the attention of nearby people who rushed to the shop. Several of them were armed with sticks and motorcycle helmets.

The robbers were surrounded by the mob but two managed to escape. Unfortunately, their accomplice who did not get away was severely beaten.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the robber lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

Police found a parang believed to have been used by the robber in his earlier crimes.

He was sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre for treatment. --NST
