Ipoh, Malaysia: Two burglars had to be rescued after they were trapped on the roof of a goldsmith outlet in Sungai Siput yesterday.

They were leaving through the roof of the double-storey shophouse after breaking into an outlet and finding nothing when they realised they were unable to get down.

By then, the goldsmith had alerted the police after the burglars unknowingly triggered the silent alarm.

Police who arrived 15 minutes later called in the Fire and Rescue Department after they too could not get the burglars down.

Sungai Siput Deputy police chief Deputy Supt Mak Pak Chuai said police were checking if the burglars, both 21 and claiming to be best friends, had any prior records.

He said that the two left the outlet empty-handed because the goldsmith had stored all the jewellery in a safe.

On another matter, DSP Mak said about 90 people living by the banks of Sungai Pelus in nearby Lintang were evacuated to Dewan Felda Lasah following floods. --The Star
