Reserve cop pleads innocent to bribery

JOHOR BARU, MALAYSIA - A Police Volunteer Reserve member pleaded not guilty at a Sessions Court here to two counts of bribery.

Mohd Fairuz Zainal, 28, who was based at the Majidee police station, was charged with accepting RM100 from one Fairus Jusoh at a restaurant in Tampoi here on Aug 9 and another RM200 at a restaurant in Seri Alam 10 days later.

The money was an inducement to not arrest Fairus and his friend for khalwat (close proximity).

Judge Aliman Musri granted a RM1,500 bail and fixed Oct 19 and 20 for trial.

Earlier in the same court, Customs officer Norman Mohd Nasir claimed trial to accepting RM50 from one Than Tong Hock at the Johor Causeway on April 24, last year.

The money was so no tax will be imposed on the electronic devices Than brought in from Singapore. Both the accused were charged under Section 11a of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997.
