JOHOR BARU, MALAYSIA: A woman police constable almost lost her life when a motorist attempted to run her down with his car, after he was slapped with a parking summons near the Taman Perling police station here at 12.55pm on Wednesday.

Johor Baru (north) police chief Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Hassan said the constable had issued the driver a summons for double parking and disrupting traffic.

The driver, in his 30s, arrived at his car just as the constable was placing the summons on the windscreen.

He argued with the officer before he crumpled the parking ticket, entered his car and shouted vulgarities at the officer.

Then he allegedly tried to run her over.

Fortunately, the engine suddenly died, and the constable managed to get out of the way. He restarted his engine and sped off.

Ruslan said police traced the driver through his vehicle registration number and arrested him at his home in Bukit Indah in Nusajaya here at 1am yesterday.

He has been remanded to help in investigations for attempted murder, disrupting public order and indiscriminate parking.
