Councillors' vehicles splashed with acid

KLANG, MALAYSIA - Two Klang municipal councillors' cars were splashed with acid, an act believed to have been the work of traders who were dissatisfied over the temporary stall allotments in the district for the Chinese New Year period.

The cars, a Mercedes Benz S280 and a Toyota Avanza, were parked at the Pandamaran sports complex in the 10am incident yesterday.

The Mercedes belonged to Parti Keadilan Rakyat councillor Gary Tai, while the Avanza belonged to DAP councillor Lim Lip Suan. Both are in charge of the Sungai Pinang areas.

At the time of the incident, lots were being drawn for 300 stalls in five temporary locations -- two in Pandamaran, and the others in Taman Eng Ann, Klang Utama and Taman Sentosa. The two MPK councillors were handling the drawing of lots with about 260 applicants.

"This is the first time we are drawing lots so as to be fair to everyone. Some traders who did not get the best locations were angry," Lim said.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Mat Yusop said only one man was responsible for the attack.
