KUALA LUMPUR - A car park attendant who accused police of brutality named 11 policemen, including a chief inspector, responsible for scalding him with hot water during detention.
B. Prabakar, 27, who lodged a report at the Brickfields station yesterday, said that he was tortured between Dec 23 and 28 last year.
He also gave the full names, ranks and service numbers of the policemen involved.
He was accompained by lawyer N. Surendran dan Teluk Intan MP M. Manogaran.
Prabakar was arrested in Desa Sri Hartamas on Dec 23 for an alleged extortion case and released on police bail on Dec 28.
CID Director Datuk Bakri Zinin told a press conference yesterday that police should be given time and space to complete the investigation.
He said police had recorded statements from 22 people, including two doctors, and conducted six identification parades on Thursday and Friday involving 120 police officers and other personnel.
He said that the 11 policemen named by Prabakar would be called again for their statements.
"Please let us do our job. We do not investigate based on colour but on concrete evidence and witnesses' statements," said Comm Bakri.
"The only agenda we have is to seek justice for victims. We have always been transparent especially in cases involving policemen," he said.
Comm Bakri gave the assurance that action would be taken against policemen should the claims made Prabakar be true.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan has formed a task force to probe into the allegations.
