KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: This is the taxi driver who allegedly raped his passenger on Jan 20 and then demanded a fare for sending her back home.

In fact, police believe the unidentified suspect had raped several other passengers in recent months.

Police also believe he may not even be a registered taxi driver.

City Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner II Ku Chin Wah yesterday released a photofit of the suspect, together with a still image taken from a closed-circuit television recording of him.

He said the taxi the man was driving was believed to have been stolen in Kuang.

The man had driven his 27-year-old victim, a clerk, to a secluded area in Petaling Jaya where he handcuffed her and raped her several times.

Several hours later, he drove her home but demanded that she pay the fare.

The woman, upon reaching home, told her uncle what had happened. Her uncle, armed with a rod, then stormed out of the house and questioned the taxi driver before smashing the vehicle's rear window.

The man, however, managed to escape.

Ku urged anyone who had repaired the glass on a taxi bearing the registration number HWB 5868 or those with any information on the man's whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.
