KLANG, MALAYSIA: A woman pleaded guilty at a magistrate's court here to hurting her 12-year-old daughter using a hot iron.

Housewife Maslinda Tubari, 28, had committed the offence against her daughter Nur Aliya Safa Ismail in a house at Lot 1723, No 9D Sungai Udang, about 7am on April 27.

Maslinda, who was not represented, appeared calm when the charge was read out.

She was arrested on April 29 after her daughter's teacher discovered what looked like burnt marks on her hands.

Nur Aliya, the eldest of three siblings, was taken to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital where injuries were found on her hands and neck.

Magistrate Gan Chee Keong set bail at RM3,000 and fixed June 9 to pass sentence.

Maslinda could be jailed up to three years, or fined, or whipped, or given any two of the punishments.

It was reported in a newspaper on Monday that a woman allegedly burned her daughter with a hot iron after suspecting the girl had told her husband about her extra-marital affair.
