KUALA LUMPUR: A female newscaster was robbed and nearly kidnapped by four parang-wielding men at Taman OUG, off Jalan Klang Lama, here a few days ago.

The woman, in her 20s, was with her cousin in a multipurpose vehicle at a bus stop waiting for another relative. The cousin stepped out for a smoke while she slept in the vehicle.

Sources said a car with four men inside stopped near the newscaster's cousin.

"Three of the men demanded the cousin hand over his wallet and mobile phone," said the source.

He said the men, not satisfied with their loot, searched the MPV for more valuables and grabbed the newscaster's handbag, which woke her up.
Still unhappy with their haul, they then tried to grab the newscaster and force her out of the vehicle.

However, her cousin managed to plead with the men to let her go.

The source said police believed the men were dissuaded from kidnapping the newscaster as they were on a busy main road.

Both victims lost nearly RM3,000 in cash and belongings.

A report was later lodged at a nearby police station.

A few hours after the incident, the newscaster received a phone call from a resident near the Bandar Tun Razak LRT station, who found her handbag.

The handbag contained her MyKad and business cards, but no cash.
