GOMBAK, Malaysia: Police smashed a luxury car theft syndicate which targeted Toyota Fortuners with the arrest of five men in Kajang on Friday.

Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the five, aged between 25 and 46, including two Bangladeshis were picked up following a raid on a car workshop in Sungai Lalang, Semenyih at about 3.30pm.

"They were caught in the midst of cannibalising one Fortuner for its parts," he said after witnessing an interstate karate competition held in Selayang Mall yesterday.

Khalid said police are looking for two more suspects, including the mastermind of the group. The case is being investigated under Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act for possession of stolen goods.

In an unrelated matter, police are expected to charge the employer of the Indonesian maid who claimed she was caned and punched by her employer.

Ampang OCPD Asst Comm Abd Jalil Hassan said the woman who is seven months pregnant was ordered by the magistrate to be released on police bail yesterday.

"We expect to charge her for the offence this Wednesday or Thursday," he said. -The Star/ANN
