KUALA LUMPUR: Police dealt a major blow to a drug trafficking ring when they seized over 2kg of syabu worth RM500,000 ($206,100) and arrested two foreigners - one them a mere teenager.
Police also found RM308,000 in cash and around RM5,000 worth of stolen jewellery when they raided an apartment at Jalan Sulaiman in Ampang near here on Thursday.
District Deputy OCPD Supt Amiruddin Jamaluddin said the activities of the two men, a 16-year-old from Iran and a 22-year-old from Pakistan, were discovered when neighbours saw a cannabis plant outside the apartment.
"When police arrived at the apartment, the two suspects were seen pulling out the cannabis plant and stuffing it into a plastic bag," he said.
He added when the two men spotted the police, they threw the bag onto the floor and tried to escape on foot but were quickly subdued.
Supt Amiruddin said police believe the Iranian teenager had been living in the apartment with his mother and seven-year-old sister.
"We are trying to locate the family members as they were not home during the raid," he said.
He added both men have been remanded until July 7 and will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
