KUALA TERENGGANU, MALAYSIA - A 78-year-old woman broke her right arm and suffered cuts on the head when she was attacked by a relative in her bedroom yesterday.

Following the assault, the man, in his 30s, ran off with RM34,000 (SGD13,851) in cash and valuables.

Saerah Musa was alone at her home in Kampung Padang Tengir, Manir, when her relative appeared in the room around 8am and hit her with an iron rod.

He also threatened to kill her if she screamed.

The man then ransacked the house and fled with jewellery and RM4,000 stashed under Saerah's mattress.

When her husband returned from buying breakfast 30 minutes later, he was shocked to find her lying in a pool of blood.

He called their daughter and they rushed Saerah to the Kubang Jela Hospital.

She was transferred to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital two hours later.

Another relative lodged a report at the Manir police station at 1pm the same day.
